Courtney & Daniel - Wallalong House Wedding - Hunter Valley

Courtney & Daniel got married on Saturday 9th February 2019 at Hunter Valley wedding venue Wallalong House. Daniel being from the UK & Courtney from NZ meant that their day was to have a strong focus on family & friends. Many of which had travelled great distances to celebrate their special day with them in a small town most people haven’t even heard of called Wallalong, NSW a 40 minutes drive from Newcastle.

Fast-forward to the pre-ceremony lead-up. I arrived at Wallalong House a couple of hours before the ceremony, meeting all the groomsmen and Dan who were relaxing out on the veranda. A few close friends and family who were also staying onsite were chilling by the pool making good use of it on the hot summers day.

With both Bride & Groom prep at Wallalong House, I headed inside to see the Bride Courtney & her bridesmaids. The Chic Artistry team were inside finishing up the hair & makeup for Courtney & her bride-tribe. I started photographing all the details; jewellery, flowers, dress, rings etc. Finding a beautiful concrete bath with copper plumbing just outside the room where the girls were getting ready, I knew this would be a unique spot to photograph the dress. An edgier approach than the standard hanging in a doorway shot.

Wallalong House, a beautiful historic wedding venue in the Hunter Valley definitely has a lot of character and rustic charm. Providing countless backdrops and textures to work with. The sandstone, iron details, wooden floorboards, large windows, flawless styling among many other things make it the perfect wedding venue. Celebrant Monty King of Sassy Celebrants created a relaxed and engaging atmosphere for the couple & their guests. At times calling on the guests to raise their hands in agreement to one-liners about the couple and their commitment. Keeping it lively and fun, how all weddings should be. Following the ceremony, we photographed the family photos under the dappled light of the trees that surround the back of the property near the ceremony location. Then heading off shortly after for bridal party photos.

We shot in the hedge-lined driveway that sweeps around from the front of the house to the back, then used the sandstone facade of The Stables which provided the perfect amount of shade and warm tones for some group photos. Court & Dan were keen to shoot some more moody/darker images in the stables as I’d shown them examples of images I’d shot there previously. This really paid off, the images we created were quite unique and the intimate nature of the location really saw the couple becoming quite relaxed in front of the camera.

Courtney & Daniel’s dog ‘Sasha’ made a few appearances throughout the day too. Sleeping through the entirety of their Ceremony, but ensuring she was front & centre for the large group photo with all the guests after the ceremony. When we made our way back from The Stables, Courtney, Dan & Sasha went over into the garden between the house and the reception room. An epic spot with a weathered old wooden door swung in between 2 brick walls surrounded by shrubbery, a great spot for some photos of the trio.

The reception was held in the custom purpose built Indian tent, which definitely has some of the best views in the Valley. Newcastle musician Kylie Jane provided vocal & acoustic entertainment for the evening. Many of the guests stood and sat out on the lawn behind the reception room as the sun set across the hills, a phenomenal site especially when paired with the newlyweds. The colour and cloud cover created some of the greatest wedding shots I’ve shot to date.

It was definitely an epic Hunter Valley wedding! Huge shout out to all of the suppliers involved who I will link below, to the Wallalong House staff & caters you guys were amazing as always, ensuring the day ran seamlessly. And a massive thank you to the couple Daniel & Courtney for having me as your wedding photographer!
